'Get curious  We tend to judge our behaviours and experiences as good or bad, right or wrong.   This can feel like riding a rollercoaster of emotion. Sometimes we come to conclude that its not just our behaviours that are bad – it’s that WE are bad. And that’s a shame trap.   So what’s a better way to deal with our mistakes? Drop the judgement and get curious instead.   Instead of obsessing about WHAT you did, try to understand WHY you did it. Ask yourself: What was the context? What were the contributing factors? What happened immediately before? Or earlier that day? What past experiences shaped your reactions?   If we can understand WHY we did something, we can action plan to help prevent us from repeating that same mistake. We can LEARN. And learning brings about change.   So remember, one way to combat shame is to drop the judgement and get curious.
