'The Royal Marines Basic Fitness Test (BFT) is a test that serving Royal Marines have to pass twice a year. It consists of the Royal Marines Pull up test, sit up test and 3 mile run. Bodybuilder tries the Royal Marines Fitness test for the first time in 13 years! This is part of my series where I attempt various different challenges and military fitness test. This is the 16,000 subscriber challenge so I would like to take a moment to thank you for subscribing. There is not just one test the Royal Marines do - so I thought it would be a cool idea to gradually attempt each test starting with the easiest and then progressing to the slightly harder ones. The Royal Marines BFT is not the same as the PJFT or the PRMC. The basic fitness test is conducted in boots and combat trousers. The Royal Marines Basic Fitness test is conducted twice annually. It is taken by all personnel under the age of 55, and in medical category P2. Those ages 40 and over may take the RM BFT or elect to take a separate test, which is the RM BFT 40+ Tp pass the RM BFT all Marines must: 1) Complete the upper body exercise repetitions to the minimum standard 2) Complete the squad run in 15 minutes 3) Complete the best effort run, in a time dependant on age. Pull Up Test execution: The individual hangs with an overhand grip, hands shoulder width apart with the arms and body straight. The pull up is performed by bending the arms until chin is over the bar. The PTI dictates the cadence of the repetitions. The test finishes when the individual fails to complete a proper repetition or dismounts the beam - there is no time limit to this pull up test. No kicking, swining or kipping is allowed. Sit Up Test Execution: The individual lies in a supine position on a mat with his knees bent feet flat on the ground and not more than 8cm apart. The sit up is initiated by curling the torso upwards and and then back down the head must touch the floor and not bounce the back off the floor. Run: The aerobic test comprises of 2 parts: Part 1 of the test is the warm up consisting of a jog over a measured 1.5 mile course which is to be completed as a squad in a minimum time of 14mins 45 seconds and a maximum time of 15 mins. Part 2 of the test is a best effort run over a measured 1.5 mile course and follows on immediately after part 1.
